Where can I find more information about Smith Patterson as a maker of clocks. This name appears on the face of my grandfather clock and I assume it is the manufacturer since it is the only identifying mark I can find in side or outside. The mahogany clock case was custom-made around 1910. The dial has hand-painte moon phase with sail boat motiff. Thanks in advance
Smith Patterson was a retail jeweler in Boston. Every city had one or more premier jewelers that had their name on clock dials. Some other names are: Bigelow & Kennard, Tiffany, J.E. Caldewell, Tilden & Thurber.
Smith Patterson Company, Boston, Mass. Smith Patterson Co. was a fine quality jeweler comparable to Tiffany in New York. Like Tiffany they retailed the best quality clocks that were actually made by renowned clock makers under the Smith Patterson name.
