QuestionEdit

In error while winding my clock, I pulled the middle chain all the way to the top and the clock stopped! How do I go about getting the chain back down so the clock runs?

AnswerEdit

Although it seems that winding it up all the way is what caused it to stop, you can't overwind the clock. There are evidently other issues with the movement that need to be addressed. Most grandfather clocks need to have the movement dismantled for cleaning & overhaul @ every 15 years on average, this may be what you're facing. Hard to know for sure without knowing the service history.

QuestionEdit

My wife and I found a very nice grandmother clock in an antique store manufactured by the "Trend Clock Company". The only problem is, it is missing the weights. It is chain driven and the pendulem is intact. It is Model Number 841W with Movement No. 100. Additional info- Pack- 2790, whatever that means. Can just ANY set of weights be used? I've cjecked the history of this company online and have looked at grandfather clock parts, but I cannot find any information... can you offer any help on where to find the appropriate weight set? Thanks a bunch!!

Dana

AnswerEdit

The weights need to be matched to the movement. If they are too light, the clock won't work. If they are too heavy the movement will wear out prematurely. I need to know what numbers are stamped on the back of the clock movement. Please look inside the back of the clock and tell me what these numbers are.
